Myth Buster #4
I want to foster but I’m concerned about government intrusion into the life of our family and the practice of our faith. This is a valid concern; however, our counties are earnestly looking for quality foster families. This search has often lead them to families in our local churches. With them comes the stability of their faith in Jesus and their involvement in a community of believers in their local church.
While biological parents make the decisions regarding religious practices, caring for foster children does not prohibit you from practicing your faith. Surrounding these children with the loving church community is a wonderful way to demonstrate the love of Jesus. Your church provides a stable support network, demonstrating the role of adults to care for and protect children in their care.
The church has been called by God to care for the widow and the orphan if they want to show true faith to a watching world. (James 1:27) These children are temporary orphans. Our willingness to navigate the guidelines and regulations to be the homes for these children demonstrates true faith to a watching community. Introducing a child to the Bible and to a loving Heavenly Father through your family devotions, bed time prayers and your church participation is a gift with eternal benefits.
