Myth buster #2
I want to foster but…I’m too young or too old. If you are at least 21 years of age you can qualify to foster children. You are able to be a foster parent as long as your health and well-being allows you to be able to meet the needs of children in your care. Whether you are single or married you can be qualified to become a foster parent.
In preparation to foster you will attend certification training of about 36 hours in length. During this training you will be prepared to parent foster children and learn about the guidelines regarding foster care. Ongoing training is offered in your area to help you learn how to better meet the needs of foster children.
If you have never parented it will be a learning process but not impossible. With the help of the training, your local church and a good support group you will be able to be a good foster parent. If you are currently a parent or have an empty nest, your years of experience will serve you well as a foundation to help these children from hard places. Training you will receive gives you the right tools to parent children in foster care, which often requires different tools and strategies than those that worked with your own children.
Children from hard places need you to provide them with a loving home and a caring church family. What is keeping you from having one more child in your home?
