If you take the time to look you to may recognize that compassion has a face. That was certainly the case for a church seeking to arouse the compassion of their congregation for the needs of children in foster care. This church contacted Heart Gallery, an organization working to help put a face on the children in foster care who are waiting for their forever home. This group brought almost life size pictures of children in their region who are in need of forever homes and displayed them through out the entry way of the church.
As people viewed the beautiful pictures of children who need forever homes, one child looked familiar! Yes indeed, this boy attended the church on a regular basis. Now, compassion had a face. This church family knew the boy but did not realize his need.
There are more than two dozen children right now in Ashland county that need forever homes. In the state of Ohio there are over 3,200. Give compassion a face. Visit the Ohio Adoption Photolisting and pray over the children and youth that are waiting for a forever home.
May is Foster Care Awareness month. While the goal is reunification, if possible, all children and youth need permanency in a loving forever home. Some children will only need a temporary foster home, others will need a new family. How will you respond with compassion to each child?
Give your time as a volunteer to help a family foster, become a foster family, share your talents with Fostering Family Ministries to help us reach more churches to recruit more foster families and train supportive friends. Invest financially to make sure our foster children get the support they need to change their future. Together, we can help children from hard places heal.
Below are some Heart Gallery displays from other states around the country. Be inspired to give compassion a face!
